The shadows she saw on the lawn inspired her to develop an approach that in contrast did not portray the object she chose onto canvas. The object becomes a representation of itself, with the canvas carrying an interpretation by painting of the object, particularly when it is a living thing or food item, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's painting style, that is a bit ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only thing of her art to survive is the photograph. Painting and photography are closely connected to form two-dimensional flat surface which is a trompe l'oeil. At certain locations, the third dimensions can be visible, like around the eye or on the hair. Meade often integrates her model in the environment around her, which allows for her to work within the context of their own. It eliminates any distinction between photography, painting, and installation.
